A jewel-like native succulent forming chalky rosettes that send up fiery orange-red flower stalks loved by hummingbirds. Tuck it into rock crevices or a wall where drainage is sharp — it actually prefers to grow on its side. Never let it sit in summer wet. (Available August.). Cold-hardy to ~-10°F.
